Akash Borana: From Being Told “You Can’t” to Living Life Unfiltered

Akash Borana’s childhood was different from what many people might imagine when they look at his life today. Living with asthma from a young age meant that his parents were naturally protective. There were activities he was often discouraged from doing, and repeated reminders to be careful slowly made him aware of the limitations others placed around him. At some point, though, Akash decided that those limitations would not become his identity.
His journey into content creation began with curiosity rather than a business plan. He started by sharing things he genuinely enjoyed, from food and places he visited to everyday experiences and lifestyle moments. He was not thinking about followers or brand collaborations. Over time, he noticed that people were not only interested in the places he visited or the food he tried. They were connecting with the way he experienced those moments.
That became a turning point. Akash began seeing content as storytelling rather than simply posting photographs or videos. His Instagram presence, now followed by more than 160,000 people, grew around a simple idea of living life unfiltered. Food, travel and lifestyle became the subjects, while his personality and personal experiences became the story.
The decision to treat content creation as a profession came gradually. As his audience grew, people began recognising his work, engaging with his posts and waiting for what he would share next. He realised that he had built something more than a collection of posts. He had created a community. The work also taught him that being a creator requires much more than a camera. Creativity, storytelling, understanding people, learning and adaptability all became part of his everyday work.
There were still plenty of doubts. Choosing an unconventional career naturally brought questions about whether content creation could actually become a profession. Some posts performed poorly, while some periods brought uncertainty about whether he was heading in the right direction. Akash continued creating, using each setback to learn more about consistency, creativity and audience behaviour.
Consistency, curiosity and the ability to keep going have been among the qualities that helped him grow. He knows that the polished version of social media hides many ordinary days. A creator has to keep working when a video does not perform, learn when trends change and experiment when an idea does not work as expected. For Akash, authenticity matters just as much. “Create from experience, not just for engagement.”
In a space where trends can be copied almost instantly, Akash believes individuality is a creator’s strongest advantage. He does not want to make something simply because it is trending. Instead, he asks whether it fits his personality, his audience and the creator he wants to become. Food, travel and lifestyle give him the subjects, but his own experiences give the content its character.
His biggest breakthrough was not one particular reel or follower count. It was the moment he realised people genuinely cared about his perspective. Messages from people who discovered a place through his video or tried something after seeing his recommendation made him understand the influence content can have. Crossing 160,000 followers became a major milestone, but Akash sees those followers as people who have chosen to give him their attention and trust.
Family and friends have been part of that journey too. In the early days, Akash did not have a professional team or videographer. Friends would accompany him, hold the camera and help him capture the shots he needed. Their belief came before recognition did. Behind the person seen on camera, there were many people who helped him reach that point.

The reality of content creation, he says, is very different from what social media shows. A short travel reel can involve hours of travel, shooting, planning, editing and selecting footage. There is also the emotional challenge of putting something personal into the public space and watching the response. Akash has learned not to attach his self worth to views. A low performing post does not mean a low performing person.
Professionally, he is proud of building a community of more than 160,000 people around something that began as a personal passion. Personally, his greatest achievement is the distance he has travelled from the child who was often told to be careful. Today, he travels, explores, meets people and experiences life on his own terms. “Success is being able to live a life that the younger version of you once thought was impossible.”
His long term goal is to build a personal brand associated with experiences, storytelling, positivity and authenticity, while growing beyond social media algorithms and trends. For anyone afraid to pursue an unconventional dream, Akash has a simple message: “Your circumstances may shape your beginning, but they don't have to decide your ending.”
