How Rohit Aryan’s White Dust Overcame Financial Crisis to Achieve 9-Figure Turnover

Building a consumer business straight out of college was the singular ambition driving Rohit Aryan when he founded White Dust Handcrafted during his final year in 2021. Armed with a BBA from BIT Mesra and HR training from IIM Kozhikode, he bypassed corporate placements in major cities to build directly inside Ranchi. Rohit wanted to create local manufacturing employment in his hometown rather than chasing careers elsewhere. With seed backing from his father, he started production inside a cramped one-room workshop, crafting basic agarbattis.

The initial years tested his resolve to the limit, with annual turnover languishing under ten lakh rupees from 2021 to 2023. Shoppers hesitated to trust an unproven name, making raw material costs and payroll an exhausting monthly ordeal. Rohit frequently considered closing down the operation, but opted to keep testing new lines instead. Developing their signature Ghee Diyas demanded over fifty formulation trials, causing heavy material loss and drained funds before perfection was reached. Once launched nationwide through a dedicated website, sales skyrocketed in 2024 past twenty lakh rupees within a single month, surpassing the total earnings of his first three years combined.

Rapid expansion soon triggered severe working capital deficits by 2025. Rohit stabilized cash requirements using digital ad financing lines along with credit backed by the central government CGTMSE facility. Orders began arriving from remote corners like Ladakh, Jammu, and the Andaman Islands, quickly followed by placements across modern quick-commerce apps.

Throughout the climb from quiet rooms to nine-figure turnover figures, his mother and maternal uncle provided steady moral reassurance. His first hire now runs overall factory production, marveling at how products that once sat for months now clear out in two days. “You already know what you need to do to make it right. Most of the time, you're just negotiating with your comfort,” Rohit insists. Facing future market expansion, he remains grounded in homegrown production: “Universe, keep being kind. I'm ready for the chaos.”
