Prof. (Dr.) Sudhir Kumar: A Legacy of Scientific Innovation for National Development

Prof. (Dr.) Sudhir Kumar, former Scientist ‘F’ and Deputy Director at CSIR-CIMFR, Dhanbad, is a distinguished academician, research scientist, and innovator with over three decades of dedicated service to the nation. Born on Oct 10, 1946, he has made remarkable contributions in the field of Electronics, Communication, Instrumentation, and applied scientific research. With nearly 35 years of experience at a premier national laboratory, he played a pivotal role in research and technological advancements.


Following his retirement from CSIR, Prof. Kumar continued his academic journey by joining the Department of Electronics, Communication & Instrumentation Engineering at Scope College of Engineering, Bhopal. Since 2014, he has been actively involved in teaching and mentoring students. Presently, he serves as Guest Faculty at ACIC Foundation, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, under the aegis of NITI Aayog, Government of India.



An accomplished researcher, Prof. Kumar has authored and published around 25 scientific papers. Several of his research works focus on socio-economic upliftment through product development and improved communication systems, demonstrating his vision of science serving society. His work integrates technological innovation with grassroots empowerment, especially in sectors like agriculture and women empowerment.


Among his most notable achievements is the innovative invention titled “Nano-Tenge Mask (Aspirator Filter)” designed for protection against COVID-19 viruses. This breakthrough innovation was awarded a patent by the Indian Patent Office during 2023–2025. The mask has been further improvised into a Nano-Range Mask capable of scattering hazardous and toxic gases and filtering tiny particulate matter during inhalation.



Prof. Kumar’s contributions have earned him numerous recognitions, including the “Desh Ratna” Award and recognition from the USA World Book of Records. His research proposal on “Artificial Intelligence for Agriculture Sector and Women Empowerment” has been submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, aligning with the national vision articulated by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
